I’m not quite sure how we are getting exactly 100% uptime. To not need to reboot the server one time in two months is pretty awesome.

Well this is the first time I get to prove myself as an independent resource for true reporting of uptime, downtime, and response time statistics for any host.

HostICan is on of five hosts we have tested for the month of October. We will be adding more true statistics for other hosts in the future, as soon as get more capital to purchase hosting accounts everywhere. HostICan Uptime Report - September, 2007
We added HostICan to our reporting system on September 8th. This is why you will see NA on any dates before then. From this point forward, you can expect full month reports.

As you can see, aside from one day, we can report 100% uptime! No other host we report on this month will show this kind of stability.

But what about that one day? Don’t worry! We were actually notified in advance on a planned outage for this day. The outage was because they migrated to a new, larger data center! We experienced an outage in the early AM for 6 hours and 40 minutes while they physically transferred servers from one data center to another.

With this planned outage, our total uptime for the month of September, 2007 was 98.79% uptime.

Here’s the notification email text we received (unaltered):

HostICan is committed to bringing better standards of web hosting to our entire customer base. Upgrades and Maintenance windows are very important to keep stability of service. Thus, we have scheduled a maintenance window: WHEN: 11:00 PM – 6:30 AM EDT Friday–Saturday September 28th 2007 WHAT: All services will be affected at this time. On this HostICan server, we will be posting full unedited stats on server uptime, downtime, and response times.

Regarding Uptime, we have our pinging 3rd party company hitting this site once every 5 minutes. Therefore, if the server is down for only 5 seconds and the ping servers we use happens to send a ping at that time, it will count for 5 minutes of downtime.

Therefore, it is important to note that, although we may show stats lower than 99% uptime, they may have been up for that long. We could change this to 1 minute but we feel the bandwidth used from this type of testing would be extreme.

Also note that our testing company is sending pings from all over the world, not just from where we are located. Therefore, average ping response times will include very long distance ping requests. We’ll accurately report these speeds by splitting up US pings to non-US pings and then finally, a total overall combined score.

Beginning October, we will start uptime reporting with screen captures of our commercial 3rd party reporting service. Unlike other sites out there, we aren’t reporting uptimes based on junk resolutions such as one ping / visitor for every 30 minutes. We have our paid commercial monitoring set to monitor this website by sending requests once every 5 minutes!

Now you’ll be able to see how long we are offline, if we are offline, when we are offline, and get a better percentage reporting of total uptime for the day and month.

We are very excited to bring you this feature monthly to this website. We may even do weekly reports if requested.

The service is costly to run, however, we think in the long run, many visitors will appreciate our reporting.
