Well this is the first time I get to prove myself as an independent resource for true reporting of uptime, downtime, and response time statistics for any host.

HostICan is on of five hosts we have tested for the month of October. We will be adding more true statistics for other hosts in the future, as soon as get more capital to purchase hosting accounts everywhere. This experiment project has become really expensive, really quickly. Our costs include hosting, reporting services, and a LOT of time.

HostICan Uptime Report - September, 2007
We added HostICan to our reporting system on September 8th. This is why you will see NA on any dates before then. From this point forward, you can expect full month reports.

As you can see, aside from one day, we can report 100% uptime! No other host we report on this month will show this kind of stability.

But what about that one day? Don’t worry! We were actually notified in advance on a planned outage for this day. The outage was because they migrated to a new, larger data center! We experienced an outage in the early AM for 6 hours and 40 minutes while they physically transferred servers from one data center to another.

With this planned outage, our total uptime for the month of September, 2007 was 98.79% uptime.

Here’s the notification email text we received (unaltered):

HostICan is committed to bringing better standards of web hosting to our entire customer base. Upgrades and Maintenance windows are very important to keep stability of service. Thus, we have scheduled a maintenance window: WHEN: 11:00 PM – 6:30 AM EDT Friday–Saturday September 28th 2007 WHAT: All services will be affected at this time. We will be upgrading our core network and migrate servers from one of our cages to a larger cage. This will help us further organize and improve our service to you as a customer. If you have regular visitors to your site during the above hours, we suggest that you put up a notice to inform them of the maintenance window. We know from past experience that they will appreciate this and that it will, as a result, have minimal impact on your online presence. We do appreciate your understanding in this matter, and for supporting us in making a better service for you. If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We’ll explain all of this data in another post shortly. The response times are actually good once you understand how we report response times. Here’s a hint, these are not ping response times!
